This is a “textile-like” product that is made to cover up everyday kitchen-wares produced and sold over decades in Japan. While the act of covering up itself is simple, the shape created in the process is actually a complex three-dimensionally-curved surface that is difficult to reproduce. A high-precision CT scan originally used for non-destructive inspection of automobile parts is taken and used to create digitized shape of the kvadrat textile placed naturally. The texture produced is not the pattern arranged digitally and it proves structurally that the textile is composed of warp and weft. This work is an attempt to deliver a three-dimensionally-curved ordinary textile, in the formed specifically shaped by the designer that would not usually be duplicated, into our everyday life.

本作品は日本において何十年も製造・販売されてきた日用品に被せるための“布のようなもの”です。布を被せるという行為自体はシンプルである一方で、生み出される造形は再現の難しい複雑な三次元曲面で構成されています。本来、自動車部品の非破壊検査で用いられる高精度のCTスキャンを使用し、無造作に被せられたkvadratの織物をそのままの形でデジタルデータ化しています。テクスチャーはデジタル上で配置された模様ではなく、縦糸と横糸で構成された織物だからこそ浮かび上がった構造の証です。再現性のなかった何気ない布の三次元曲面をデザイナーの意図した形状そのままに、暮らしに届けることを試みたプロジェクトです。
